the gingham studio
Hi, I’m Ginny

My name is Ginny, and I’m the artist and creative behind the gingham studio. I’m so glad you’re here. I like to create delightful things that bring joy and are useful.

The gingham studio is where I create and make art. It’s basically a corner in our smallish home that I love. I’m a big believer in using what you have, and you’ll see that in the materials I use such as textiles and papers {new or vintage} and things found in nature. I also love creating illustrations {painted or drawn} in my sketchbook.

Art is my love language and lineage. I’m inspired by tools, techniques, and processes. I grew up in a home where we were encouraged to read, play, make things, and dream. My late grandmother was an artist and a maker. She taught me how to sew, and signed me up for art classes. I want to use my creativity to encourage others and leave a legacy for my kids and other creatives.

I studied French for 6 years and had plans to teach French and Art when I finished college. Teaching wasn’t my calling and I realized I needed to take a different path. But I am forever a Francophile. When I was 16 I had the privilege of traveling to Paris for a week. It forever changed my worldview and the way that I wanted to live my life, so you’ll see a little bit of French inspiration in many of my creations. The language is engaging and has unique phrases that can’t be found in the English language. The french people are known for their love of beautiful things and using what they have to create distinctive homes. The culture is about appreciating and taking pleasure daily through food, style, and natural living.

After spending 12 years in Retail and 4 years earning a degree in Retail and Consumer Science {I like to say I have a degree in shopping}, I understand how frustrating it can be to find those unique pieces that reflect who you are and help you stand out in a gentle way. I’m drawn to timeless, classic styles with a fresh perspective. I love having the right pieces that add to my life and bring me enjoyment. But I also think it is important to have quality, functional items. When I can’t find what I’m looking for I make the things that I would like to have, and that’s what I want to do for you.

Other than making art and creating handmade goods I also love to run, read a good book with a hot cup of tea, and dream of traveling the world with my family. My husband is a teacher and basketball coach. He is always teaching me something new and I am so thankful for our life together. We have two kids {Amelia and Roxton} they usually have a book in hand or are being creative. They amazingly bring joy and dimension to my life. My roles as wife and mother have shaped me in so many ways.

My mission in life is to nurture my relationships, encourage creativity, “faites simple” {keep things simple} and share the “l’art de vivre” {art of living} with my family and friends. I’d love for us to become friends. Come back and visit me in the studio to see what fun things are being created. My desire is to make things that reflect you and encourage you live an enjoyable life. What can I make for you?
